Additional Details

First edition in English of a medieval Hebrew midrash bearing the same name as a lost Biblical text. It had initially been published in Venice in 1625. The uncredited translator was Moses Samuel of England. The important American editor and diplomat Mordecai Noah bought the rights to the translation and arranged for its publication. The translation was soon acquired and commented upon by Joseph Smith, leader of the Latter-Day Saints (Mormons) and continues to be highly regarded by many Mormon scholars. Singerman 726.
